Indigenous Landscape Feature
Newcastle Central Coast Development Corporation, 2020
ARTSCAPE facilitated a series of workshops and feedback sessions to explore this unique landscape, as it relates to Awabakal and Worimi Communities.
ARTSCAPE has collaborated with Indigenous Communities in the Hunter Region on numerous public projects for over a decade.
We have developed a close working relationship that is built on trust, understanding and sensitivity of culture and story-telling.
The Indigenous Landscape Feature, which forms part of the recent Newcastle Station Piazza upgrade, is no exception. ARTSCAPE facilitated a series of workshops and feedback sessions to explore this unique landscape, as it relates to Awabakal and Worimi Communities. And develop a design response that was endorsed by all Indigenous Stakeholders, including HCCDC and Newcastle City Council.
The design seeks to focus on one theme. Broadly speaking – it is the evolution of the land and sea environments that have enabled Indigenous people to live in Newcastle for millennia.
