'The Flyer'
Hunter and Central Coast Development Corporation, 2018
The Flyer is inspired by Newcastle’s iconic passenger steam train. As part of the ongoing renewal of the area, the artwork is a reminder of the stations former purpose.
ARTSCAPE delivered The Flyer interpretive artwork at Newcastle Station, which has been subject to a process of renewal and repourposing - the planning for which dates back decades.
The Flyer is inspired by Newcastle’s iconic passenger steam train. As part of the ongoing renewal of the area, the artwork is a reminder of the stations former purpose. The contemporary nature of the design acts as a counterpoint to the place activations and events, which enliven the precinct.
The artwork contains seating, ambient lighting and sound-based activities for children to interact with.
